Heat oven to 325 ° F.Reserve 16 vanilla wafers. Finely grind the remaining cookies; mix with 1/4 cup of the sugar and butter. Press the mixture firmly onto bottom of pan with removable rim (springform pan) 9-inch. Supports the remaining cookies vertically around edge of pan, pressing slightly to secure the base.
Beat cream cheese and remaining sugar in large bowl with electric mixer. Add sour cream and vanilla; mix well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating on low speed after each addition only until they are mixed. Pour into the mold.
Bake the cheesecake for 45-50 min. or until center is almost set. Spend a small knife around the pan to loosen the cheesecake; cool before removing rim of pan. Refrigerate 4 hours.
